THE MATHON BOG
Peat bog sheltering a particularly original botanical reserve in Lessay.
A little to the east of Lessay, the Tourbière de Mathon nature reserve, recreated on the soil of the Ay valley, is home to a particularly original botanical reserve. Here, plants, birds and insects live in a small world of water and peat. Covering less than 16 hectares, it is one of the smallest nature reserves in France. You have to venture into the peat bog with a minimum of equipment. Managed by the Centre permanent d'initiatives pour l'environnement (CPIE) du Cotentin, the site is open to visitors on request only.
