Overpriced, poor service. I would say poor customer service, but they don’t look at you as customers. You are on their time.

Restaurants seem to forget they are also in the hospitality business not the food making business. Timberyard doesn’t feel they need to operate to serve customers, they operate to serve themselves. They are open just 4 days a week or sometimes 3 days a week depends on how they feel. They clearly can’t fill up a lunch service or dinner service on a weeknight so the food must be average.

Support restaurants that stay open, they need the business. Not arrogant business owners that operate weekend gigs.

Booked way in advance since we failed to get the table last time we were in Edinburgh. The atmosphere, service, and dishes are fitting of 1-Michelin star.
We had tasting menu (7 courses), that was preceded by many snack dishes - it could well be a 13-course. Walked out a bit too full!

Exceptional food and service in a beautiful, minimalist space. The best meal we had in Scotland.

Absolutely amazing experience. The best food I've tried in a long time. Fresh ingredients, balanced flavour combinations and overall down to earth dishes. I'd come back any day.

Our meal was ascendant—there was an unfathomable depth of flavor and texture in each element, and the menu flowed brilliantly from course to course. Our hosts were knowledgeable and social throughout—a wonderful group to spend an evening with. If we’re ever fortunate enough to visit Edinburgh again, we will certainly return here.

Impeccable quality.

This is not just impeccable food, it's a culinary adventure. Each dish is a masterpiece. You can taste that each ingredient was handpicked and that the combinations were thought through. I especially enjoyed the deer, it was so soft, it melts in your mouth.

A well executed light lunch. I didn't enjoy the atmosphere as much though. Price slightly on the high side for the overall experience. The timber rawness of the space was also reflected in their poor workmanship of the floor board installation. Every time their servers walked around me, the floor board acted like a see-saw and bounced my chair. For a few times, I was putting food towards my mouth when that happened. So embarrassing that I almost missed it and made a mess. The interior dining area was rather chilled even in the summertime. Toilet facilities were inside an added-on cubicle and felt too temporary to be comfortable.

Great experience at Timberyard
Everything was perfect : the food, the service and the atmosphere (lots of space and natural light)
Very reasonable prices regarding the quality of the restaurant
Would definitely recommend to anyone going to Edinburgh ????

We've had the most beautiful dining experience ever in this place. The atmosphere was really relaxed. No snobbery, no pretentiousness. We were warmly welcomed and treated cordial and respectfully. Chose the tasting menu with pairing drinks and it was just out of this world! It felt like a ceremony on food. Accompanied by beautiful classical Scandinavian folk on big retro speakers. A special shout out to the sommelier! It was such a pleasure to listen to the joy he had in describing the wines. We had the most special wines. Stuff we will never be able to drink in our lives ever again. It was a true journey through the senses. Bravo!

One of the few Michelin star restaurants we've been to that absolutely deserves the accolade. Everything from the service to the ambience to the innovative plating to the amazing flavours was outstanding. A true gem!

I was alone, but I felt welcome!
Very smooth and elegant service and the food was amazing.
I cheated a bit because a friend of mine is working there, so some extra treats for me, and that's just made my lunch even better!
Highly recommend

What a fabulous place! We came here for a special occasion and the staff definitely treated us well! The food was impeccable and very varied and unique for the five course taster menu. Theres also lots of different wines on hand. The staff are very clear on what gluten free/coeliac is, and can accommodate everything. Would recommend for a special dinner!

What an experience. Food, drink pairing, service, ambience; and scottish music. ???????? Deserts and wine pairings are absolutely the best!!

Timber yard has a perfect blend of creative food and a quality dining experience. Our favorite dishes were the Duck breast and Crème Brûlée. Personally, the taurine was not my favorite, and the crispy shrimp is good, but a different take. Ambiance and service here is standout, making the experience very enjoyable. Great to go with groups, or to casually chill with a drink.

Such a disappointing experience with tiny portions of tastless food drenched in sauces and foams - out of 5 courses barely ate a thing - looked forward to this for months

We visited Timberyard based on Google reviews & its achievement of one Michelin star (which is a big deal!). And, perhaps it was the tasting menu on offer that day (included in this review), but the food was unpleasant. Creativity & novel use of ingredients is appreciated -- but only if the end result actually tastes good. But almost every single dish was a gross combination of flavours. Many of our dishes we left untouched after one bite.

We felt disappointed as Timberyard does come very well reviewed.

I did have the soft drink pairing & that was well done. Inventive & well paired flavours. In fact, I'd give the execution 5 stars!

Perhaps it was the menu on offer? I feel bad to write this review - as the presentation was lovely & you could tell effort had been put in.

Timberyard is not a total write-off, as the premises are historical & the vibe relaxed. Although the piping in of the cacophonic fiddles was grating & repetitive. And apparently one of the staff recorded sounds of their wine-making from their casks? This recording of "bloop-bloop" sounds is then piped into the bathroom. Most of us just want to have some peace & quiet in the restroom - not have odd sounds klaxoned into the loo. There's a time & place for creativity. Perhaps I was already on edge after listening to an hour of "new age" fiddling.

Servers are accomodating & enthusiastic about the food served but were difficult to hear over the aforementioned fiddles. But, no amount of explanation would have made the food taste any better, to be honest.

I regretfully cannot recommend this restaurant. And we were really looking forward to our experience. Perhaps really take a look at the menu on hand before giving it a try...

A wonderful set menu experience accompanied by very attentive service staff. They made accommodations on the menu so that it didn’t have any pork in it, which was served to me separately from others I dined with. The bathroom is a gender neutral bathroom but designed uniquely to create lots of space and privacy so it’s not uncomfortable for anyone.

I particularly enjoyed the very American architecture and smart casual atmosphere.

Loved!! We were 45 minutes early (accidentally) and the team was so kind/gracious and still sat us. We did the £60 3 course lunch menu and added on some snacks which is so affordable considering how full we left. They accommodated my gluten free brother with ease (baked gluten free bread in house) and even changed the dessert around for me. Massive wine list, vibes 10/10, just a great experience overall. Second time here and would come back again.

Utterly delicious and full of surprising flavours, a perfect meal to enjoy in a beautiful location that will make you feel far away from the busy city for the duration of the experience.
