Timetable

Most shops are often open 7 days a week from morning until late in the evening, around 9 or 10 pm, the same goes for supermarkets, grocery stores and markets. Many small grocery stores in the area are open 24 hours a day, but it is forbidden to sell alcohol between 10pm and 11am. The famous Udel'naya flea market is only open in the mornings and on weekends.

Budget & Tips

You'll easily find something for every budget, but if you're looking for quality souvenirs and products, be prepared to pay a little more. Don't use a credit card in the markets but don't worry about it in the "hard" shops.

Sales

Sales in Russia are often chaotic and poorly supervised. Each shop decides how much to sell its products and the percentage of its promotions, during sales and sometimes even during normal marketing periods. Usually, winter sales start in mid-December and can go until the end of February, summer sales are from mid-June to mid-August.

What's very local

Give priority to local brands and modern souvenirs rather than cheap dustbins of dubious quality. Saint Petersburg is rich in small creators, designers, galleries and vintage boutiques.

Tourist traps

As in any big city, the tourist attractions are legion. If you're looking for a classic souvenir such as matreshkas, shapkas or wooden toys, don't buy on the street but rather in specialty shops or museum shops, which are often a guarantee of quality.
