CHIESA DI SAN GIOVANNI BATTISTA DI CHIAVARI
Church of San Giovanni Battiosta preserving a black crucifix of the XI century in Chiavari.
Located in the heart of the historic center of Chiavari, the church of San Giovanni Battista was built in 1332. Its facade, however, is fairly modern, having been redone in 1935. The church preserves a 15th-century black crucifix, considered miraculous. Carbonized during a fire - hence its name - it could not be restored: no artist was able to bring it back to its original colors. Every 25 years, on August 25, a procession with this crucifix takes place.
