Listed as a Monument Historique since 1952, this small chapel is dedicated to sailors lost at sea. Facing the English Channel, it follows on from a 12th-century parish church, the choir of which forms the present-day edifice. Soberly decorated, the church is an invitation to meditation, evoking the memory of those who perished, notably through the various plaques placed in their honor. Take a look at the apse, with its niche featuring Notre-Dame Auxiliatrice and statues of Saint-Vaast. A former cemetery, of which almost nothing remains, is close by.

Visite de la Chapelle des Marins à Saint-Vaast-La-Hougue 50550
La Chapelle des Marins est située à l'extrémité du port de Saint-Vaast-La-Hougue. Cette chapelle est en réalité le chœur de l'ancienne église paroissiale de Saint-Vaast-La-Hougue dont la construction date du 11ème siècle. Cette chapelle de style roman est bien conservée et donc plutôt petite. Elle est dédiée à la Vierge et offre au visiteur un chapiteau et des modillons très beaux ainsi que de magnifiques vitraux. Elle est principalement dédiée de nos jours au souvenir des marins ayant péris en mer. Un panneau placé un peu avant l'entrée, devant le monument aux morts, en explique tout l'historique.
