ISLET CASTLE
Château de l'Islet, replaced by a building comprising 2 identical main buildings and an enclosed courtyard surrounded by a moat
Château de l'Ilet (or Islet) is one of the oldest castles in the Cotentin region. Originally a simple wooden construction, the site soon became a fortified castle flanked by moats, keeps, drawbridges and more. Robert-aux-Épaules, Lord of Sainte-Marie-Du-Mont, had it demolished in the early 17th century, replacing it with a larger building comprising two identical main buildings and an enclosed courtyard surrounded by a moat. The château was abandoned in the 18th century, leaving only a few remnants of the damage sustained during the French Revolution.
