Roman bollard placed on a Roman capital, in the square of the church Sainte-Mère-Église, becoming one of the emblems of the city
They were not milestones, but almost: in Roman times, on the road from Rome to London, there was a Roman milestone every 1,481 metres. And it was with the materials from several of these that the Calvary was built, which today stands in the church square. Placed on a Roman capital, it says on a sign that it was because of this type of road that the expression "all roads lead to Rome" was born! Today, many people have their picture taken in front of this small monument, which has become one of the city’s emblems.
