VADAKKUNNATHAN TEMPLE
Temple, one of the oldest dedicated to Shiva, known for its murals, a place reserved for Hindus only, to be admired from the outside
This temple, of classical Kerala Dravidian architecture, is one of the oldest and largest temples in Kerala dedicated to Shiva. The deity, within it, has the form of Shivalinga. However, it is not visible, it is buried by a giant lump of ghee (clarified butter) formed after years of rituals. It is also famous for its murals. It is next to this temple that the festivities of Thrissur Pooram take place. Unfortunately, it can only be admired from the outside, the entrance being forbidden to non-Hindus....
