CHAUSEY ISLANDS LIGHTHOUSE
An impressive lighthouse built in 1847 on the Grande-Île of Chausey, an unmissable landmark on the island.
The construction of a lighthouse on the archipelago was essential, given the numerous reefs that make navigation hazardous, as evidenced by the many shipwrecks that have marked the history of Chausey. So, in 1847, a 41.51-meter square tower was erected using stone quarried on the island. In 2007, the lighthouse keepers left for good, as the building’s automation no longer required a human presence. What remains is the lighthouse’s tall silhouette, a landmark for many people here.
