HAM ROCKS
The rocks of Ham, the gateway to the Suisse Normande region, which are essentially made of schist at Torigny-les-Villes
Between Torigni and Tessy, in the heart of the Vire valley, the Ham rocks rise to an altitude of over 105 m, offering superb views over the Vire. This gateway to the Suisse Normande region, which opens onto beautiful rolling countryside, is a must-see in the Saint-Louis region. Composed mainly of schist, these rocks take on magnificent bluish, grey and violet hues, turning to gold at sunset. Stunning! The Vire, in all its splendor, meanders through the ancient shale terrain. Here, the valley is deep and calm. In the heart of the verdant bocage, a towpath has been preserved, and the rocks are nothing short of impressive. At the top of the cliff, two successive platforms provide access to the site. On the right bank of the Vire, walkers can enjoy a superb bird's-eye view of the incredible incision in the Vire valley and the meandering river. Down below, on the left bank of the Vire at "Le Grand Val de Vire", there's a fine overview of the steep, verdant slopes. Along the towpath, you'll come across hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers. The whole area is a beautiful place, much sought-after for family walks and picnics, especially in fine weather. There's also a large belvedere where you can enjoy an even more spectacular view: not to be missed, for an hour or a day!
