A statue in Tourville-sur-Sienne pays tribute to Admiral Louis XIV, who took part in the Battle of La Hougue in 1692
The glory of Admiral de Tourville was unfairly tarnished after the Battle of La Hougue in 1692. On the formal orders of Louis XIV, whom he had always served with self-sacrifice, he confronted the Anglo-Dutch fleet off the coast of Barfleur, whose ships were twice as numerous. He warned the court that the battle would be unequal, but nothing was done. Louis XIV recognized his mistake and showed his gratitude by appointing him Marshal of France a few months later. Tourville-sur-Sienne pays him a logical tribute, which you can discover.
