ANCIEN HÔTEL DIEU
Former Hôtel-Dieu of Valognes with a restored chapel, transformed into a leisure and cultural centre of the city.
It was at the very end of the 15th century that Jean Le Nepveu, a priest from Valognes, obtained the right to create a "hôtel-dieu" in the town. For the record, it was a sort of dispensary where the locals came to be treated. Care and Christianity being inseparable at the time, a chapel was built a few years later. Transformed into a barracks, then into a stud farm, the premises now house the town’s leisure and cultural centre. The chapel, with its simple architecture, was restored a few years ago.
