Surprising exotic garden with a botanical collection of over 1,000 plant species of subtropical origin.
The place is meant to be an oasis in the Cotentin region, and it is: a typical castle in the north of the Cotentin region has been endowed with a surprisingly exotic garden. We owe this folly to the perfumer-botanist Eric Pellerin and his wife Nicole who planted species from the southern hemisphere in their meadow adjacent to the surrounding wall from 1947 to 1982. The development of the garden continued thanks to Guillaume Pellerin and Cléophée de Turckheim who created a succession of green rooms, protected from the winds by New Zealand flax (phormium tenax) and eryngiums. By doubling the size of the garden (4.5 hectares today) as well as the botanical collection, they have acclimatised more than 1,000 species of plants of subtropical origin. In 2017, Eric Pellerin (son of Guillaume and Cléophée) took up the torch and continues to beautify this setting by welcoming you throughout the season in this surprising abundance to share with you this family passion. For the greatest pleasure of the youngest, an educational farm called "La Ferme du Jardin" puts forward the local breeds, while wishing to maintain the local breeds and to evoke the work of the elders who contributed so much to maintain them. Dwarf goats or rabbits, miniature chickens, Cotentin donkeys, Bayeux pigs or Shetland sheep - among others - are all inhabitants of this lovely place: a very nice way to end your visit here.
