THE RAZ BLANCHARD
Visit the Raz Blanchard de La Hague, whose name is said to derive from the white foam that covers the rough sea.
The heights that once linked Jobourg and the Channel Island of Alderney have subsided. They now form a 6 km long submarine dam whose crest is only 30 metres from the surface of the sea and much deeper elsewhere. This brutal difference in depth explains the terrible "Raz Blanchard", the third most dangerous overturning current in the world. Its name is said to come from the white foam that covers the very rough sea. From the cliffs, you can see the terrible current and all its strength.
