Neo-Gothic style church with high spires that occupies the site of the old castle built in the 11th century.
The neo-Gothic church with its high spires stands on the site of the former castle built in the 11th century on the orders of Robert, Count of Mortain and half-brother of William the Conqueror. A true landmark of Saint-Hilaire, it can be seen for miles around. Built between 1846 and 1873 (the year of its consecration), the church features a highly original decoration by fresco artist Fanny Delaage, dating from 1953 to 1964: the Way of the Cross, depicting Christ in a white tunic in the streets of Jerusalem. Hard hit during the Second World War, the church remains an important spiritual site in the south of France.
