ZONA ARQUEOLÓGICA XPUHIL
Site with 17 architectural ensembles, 4 of which can be visited today in Xpujil.
Like the village, the site takes its name from the Mayan red flower that grows around the reservoirs(aguadas) that form during the rainy season. Like the surrounding sites dependent on the capital Becán, it was occupied from the 4th century BC until the 13th century, with its peak again in the Late Classic (600-900). Of the 17 architectural ensembles, only 4 can be visited today, all of them imbued with the architectural and ornamental rules of the Río Bec style. Structure I(Edificio de las Tres Torres) is well worth a visit.
