Abandoned city housing a fortified town on the edge of the lake, whose function was to watch over the route to the western oases.
Difficult to access, this abandoned city is well worth a visit. In Ptolemy times, it was known as the island of Soknopaios (Isis of the Beautiful Throne). The fortified city stood on the edge of the lake, guarding the route to the western oases. Today, the brick walls still stand, although they have subsided over time, forming poetic curves. Inside, you can still see the layout of the streets and the remains of numerous residences, as well as a Ptolemaic temple. The ground is littered with pottery debris.
