MONASTÈRE DE VLACHERNE
A beautiful 17th century monastery in Kanoni.
In Kanoni, the postcard landscape owes much to the Vlachern Monastery (Μονή βλαχερνών), with its small white church with a tiled roof topped by a three-story spire. It dates back to the 17th century and is named after a famous neighborhood in Constantinople where a Byzantine monastery was built. It was a convent until 1980, today it is a place of visit. Weddings and baptisms often take place here. If you are in the area, don't miss the day of the celebration, July 2, to admire its processions on this arm of land.
