Historical fortifications in the city of Corfu Chora.

The "new fort" was built by the Venetians in 1577 to defend the northwestern suburbs of the city against Turkish raids. It was then necessary to demolish 2,000 houses to build the ramparts, part of which were destroyed during the Second World War. It was completed thirty years after the Old Fort, hence their respective names. It is organized on two levels: on the lower level, the ramparts that protected the old port and a small fortress, and a gigantic building that housed the port authorities during the English domination.

Malheureusement, seul l'extérieur est accessible et ne présente pas grand intérêt
To make for lovers of old stones, castles and epic... incredible enough Construction for the time - View of all the old and new Corfu.

It is a pity that it is not given any historic explanation to the entrance.
