VIDEO ISLAND
Island rich in history and wildlife in Corfu Chora.
On our last visit, the place looked a little abandoned. A fleeting impression, we hope, as it's a pretty little car-free island less than a kilometer in diameter. On this islet, it's possible to spot wild animals. In December 1915, all Serbian soldiers suffering from typhus were evacuated to this very islet. Because of Vido's particularly stony soil, the bodies of the soldiers who perished here could not be buried, so they were buried in the surrounding water: what a Serbian poet called "the blue cemetery".
