KUTA BEACH
Kuta Beach, a good address for families and surfers of all levels, with surf schools on site.
You can rent a deckchair and umbrella during the day, get a massage from one of the licensed masseuses, enjoy an ice-cold drink and swim between the red and yellow striped flags, where the beach is supervised. The water is not very clean (to put it mildly), so avoid drinking the cup. At weekends, Kuta beach is more cheerful when Balinese families come to relax. But what has made Kuta famous the world over is above all its sunset (between 5 and 6.30 p.m. depending on the season), which is truly magnificent when the sky is uncovered. The red of the setting sun is truly intense before disappearing behind the ocean and flooding the beach with a divine light. Finally, Kuta beach attracts surfers of all levels. The best time of year to surf in Kuta is from April to October (with the biggest waves in July-August). This is an ideal spot for beginners, who can learn the basics without any danger, as there are no coral reefs or rocks for a soft landing. Those who don't want to invest in surf lessons (50 US$ per half-day) can simply rent a longboard on the beach and jump in, as they say, learning as you go, or find an informal teacher in the waves. Bodyboards are also available for hire. You can have your own board repaired in one of the small workshops at Poppies Lanes. The surf spot for beginners is at the end of Jalan Pantai Kuta.
