PIAZZA DELLE ERBE
Very lively square with remarkable palaces in Padua.
This square was the heart of the city. Every morning, it still comes alive with a market that has been held here for centuries. The square was the centre for the sale of everyday goods and merchandise: wrought iron, vegetables and wheat, among other things, were sold here. Today it is home to the Palazzo del Podestà (20th century), seat of the town hall, and the Palazzo della Ragione, once reserved for the judiciary. The most beautiful view of Piazza delle Erbe is the one given to us from the 15th century loggia built by Palladio.
