ANTICO CIMITERO ISRAELITICO
Ancient Jewish cemetery founded in 1389 where the mortal remains of the Jews of the Serenissima between the fourteenth and nineteenth centuries are buried.
The Jewish cemetery on the Lido, one of the oldest in the world, bears witness to the rich history of the Venetian Jewish community. Founded in 1386, the site was damaged several times, notably by military assaults, before being definitively abandoned in 1938 as a result of the racial laws. Long left to erosion and overgrowth, it has been restored since 1999 and contains over a thousand graves of Venetians of the Jewish faith who lived in the Serenissima between the 14th and 19th centuries. This peaceful place steeped in history invites you to an unforgettable visit.
