Sumptuous Renaissance residence, defended by important ramparts.
Built in the 12thcentury by the Counts of Ventimiglia, the military castrum became a sumptuous Renaissance residence in the 15thcentury , defended by extensive ramparts. After withstanding numerous attacks, it fell to Franco-Hispanic artillery fire during the Seven Years' War in 1744. Abandoned by its owners, it was further damaged by the earthquake of 1887. Today, only the remains can be visited and come alive during village festivals.
