THE DOMINICANS - HERITAGE LIBRARY
This magnificent building, which housed the municipal library for more than 50 years, from 1951 to 2017, has been renovated and transformed to showcase its priceless collection of 400,000 documents comprising 1,200 manuscripts, including 400 medieval manuscripts from the great Benedictine, Cistercian and Dominican abbeys of Upper Alsace, 2,300 incunabula (books published from 1455 to 1500, mostly from the Rhine basin) and 8,000 books from the 16th century. Thus, after several years of work, the new library will be inaugurated in 2021. Changing its name, it becomes "Les Dominicains: the Jacques Chirac Heritage Library". This ambitious project will thus enable this magnificent library to become an attractive centre dedicated to the scientific study and dissemination of knowledge about books and images, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Exhibitions and workshops will be organized to showcase its priceless and exceptional collection.
