EVERGLADES OUTPOST
Animal shelter managed by a non-profit association that takes in and cares for endangered and abandoned exotic animals
Near the entrance of the Everglades Park, this animal shelter was created in 1991 by Bob and Barbara Free. It is not a zoo but a non-profit organization that takes in exotic animals that are threatened, abandoned, taken from their owners or awaiting authorization. Once treated, they are released back into the wild as much as possible. Those that cannot be released remain in the shelter or are sent to places that can protect them. During your visit, you can observe panthers, tigers, turtles, alligators and even bears.
