NAZIONAL VILLA PISANI
A villa surrounded by a very beautiful park of 10 hectares decorated with a large pond and very large stables
Commissioned by the Pisani family to celebrate the political rise of the family and erected in 1756, this marvellous villa, the most famous on the Brenta Riviera, has welcomed many personalities, including Napoleon I, the Grand Dukes of Russia, Ferdinand of Austria, Maximilian of Habsburg and the King of Italy Vittorio Emanuele II. Moreover, its current decoration is the result of the wishes of Bonaparte himself. Tapestries and furniture always display the imperial "N". But the villa is especially famous for having been the setting for the first meeting between Mussolini and Hitler. The grandiose ensemble pays homage to the Palace of Versailles; its owner at the time, Alvise Pisani (1664-1741), was in fact Venice's ambassador to the court of the Sun King. The visit takes place along a string of sumptuous but rather monotonous salons and rooms. The decoration of the rooms is the work of the greatest Venetian painters of the 18th century; the highlight of the visit is the sumptuous ballroom, whose frescoes were painted by Giambattista Tiepolo in a vertiginous trompe l'oeil to the glory of the Pisani family. A very beautiful park of 10 hectares surrounds the immense building, decorated with a large pond and very large stables. Do not miss the famous hedge maze, described by the poet D'Annunzio in his novel The Fire, which will amuse children and delight the older ones. At the end of the park, a charming little café is the opportunity for a pleasant gourmet break.
