OFFICE DE TOURISME
Arquà Petrarca, in Italy's Padua province, is a charming medieval village that seems frozen in time. Its name probably comes from Arquata montium, meaning "ring of mountains", but its fame is due to Francesco Petrarca, the poet who spent the last years of his life here. The village has ancient origins, with archaeological remains dating back to the Bronze Age. A necropolis has been discovered on the slopes of Monte Ricco, with many tools and weapons belonging to the indigenous Euganean tribes who lived in the area before Roman colonization. Arquà Petrarca is also home to Lake Costa, recently accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
