PETRARCA HOUSE
Last residence of Francesco Petrarch in 1370, a typical Venetian house with a mummified cat in Arqua Petrarca
In 1370, tired of long and tiring peregrinations, François Petrarch decided to establish his last residence here. Surrounded by his family, he died here in 1374. The house, with its typical Venetian look, overlooks the garden on one side and the brolo (courtyard) on the other. Inside, you can admire the poet's study and the reception room decorated with 16th century frescoes added by one of the owners who succeeded him. And what about this mummified cat? A curiosity under which you can read a tribute poem written by Petrarch.
