OVIPOSITION DEGLI ALPINI
Covered wooden bridge also called Ponte Vecchio, being the symbol of Venice and the main sight of the city.
This frail, subtle wooden structure overlooking the Brenta is a rare piece of heritage. Covered by a roof, the Ponte degli Alpini is in fact a pedestrian bridge. Originally built in the 13th century, its style was reinvented in 1569 by Palladio. Fate, however, had its way... Repeatedly damaged and even destroyed by river floods and wars in the centuries that followed, the 58-metre bridge finally owed its salvation to the Alpine hunters who, in 1948, rebuilt it according to the plans of the famous Vicentine architect.
