MONTE BALDO
Mountain declining towards the waters of the lake appreciated for its rich flora especially in spring, accessible by cable car up to 1,780 m.
Monte Baldo, known since the Renaissance as "the botanical garden of Europe", rises on the northeastern shore of Lake Garda. Its name, derived from the German word Wald (forest), reflects its rich biodiversity, from Mediterranean vegetation to the edelweiss of its peaks. Reaching an altitude of 2,218 metres, it extends over nine municipalities between Verona and Trento, offering spectacular panoramas and a variety of climatic and floral landscapes. Accessible all year round, it attracts lovers of outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, paragliding and hang-gliding. A funicular ascent (reaching 1,780 m) from Malcesine reveals a breathtaking 360° view of the lake and its surroundings, and offers hiking trails with uninterrupted views of the lake and a panoramic café.
Its 35 km of limestone ridges offer spectacular panoramic views. In spring, the landscape is sublimely blooming, with fields of olive trees, laurels and holm oaks, before giving way to mountain pines and alpine plants at higher altitudes.
For botany enthusiasts, the Jardin de Novezzina, at an altitude of 1,232 metres, showcases the local floral wealth and protects over 700 local species. Heritage lovers won't want to miss the sanctuary of Madonna della Corona (1625), reached from Spiazzi or Brentino via a long flight of stone steps. Finally, San Zeno di Montagna, a natural balcony overlooking the lake, is an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding mountain pastures.
