PA-HAY-OKEE LOOKOUT TOWER
Short trail across the river of grass with a view of the Shark River Slough, animals like deer in the vicinity
The name pa hay okee (literally river of grass) was given by the Seminole Miccosukee Indians to the marshes that make up the Everglades. The short 130-meter trail crosses this "river of grass" and will give you a panoramic view of the Shark River Slough, whose waters flow calmly into the transition zone of mangroves before flowing into the Gulf of Mexico. Wildlife-wise, you may be lucky enough to spot a hawk or a deer, and you may even come across an alligator on the trail leading to the view.
