EL CORCHAL
A flooded area covered with vines and orchids, an important wildlife reserve in Isla Holbox
Before arriving, an enormous thousand-year-old ceiba covered with climbing plants and orchids awaits visitors at Solferino. An hour's drive from the village, plus an hour's walk, El Corchal (the cork) is a flooded area whose trees have floating roots: during storms, this small forest moves with the water! It's an important wildlife reserve: jaguars, deer, spider monkeys, migratory birds... On site, explore the floating forest and water lily gardens by kayak. A great ecotourism excursion.
