EL PALACIO
The most important building of the site, which perfectly illustrates the Puuc style, built on a natural elevation in Sayil
The most important building on the site is a perfect example of the Puuc style. The upper part of the Palacio was built on a natural elevation and the lower parts were added later. The complex was originally divided by a monumental staircase. More than 85 rooms, divided into three bodies, suggest an administrative use. The first two levels have entrances divided by columns. On the second level, a frieze of heads of the god Chac and small columns run the length of the building above the doors. Remnants of the crest culminate on the roof.
