Near the entrance to the site, the Cobá Group is an architectural complex of 53 buildings, of which only a part has been excavated. These buildings are the result of the superposition of several construction stages. The most imposing is called the iglesia (church) and is 24 metres high. Its construction began during the Ancient Classic period and continued into the Postclassic period. An offering composed of jade figurines and pearls was found inside. The Cobá Group also includes a ball game where bas-reliefs and steles with hieroglyphs were engraved.
