A celebration honouring sailors lost at sea, with a colourful maritime procession and traditional games.
Navy Day is an important date in the port of Río Lagartos, as we pay tribute to sailors and fishermen who have died at sea. The celebrations, organized by the Río Lagartos fishermen's cooperative, begin on the evening of May 31 with a concert by a musical group. The following day sees a mass and the traditional bordeo, a procession of around a hundred colorful lanchas, during which a floral offering is placed offshore in memory of those lost. There's also a competition for the best-decorated boat and traditional games.
