CHAMBERLAIN BRIDGE
It's one of two bridges over the Careenage. The Chamberlain Bridge links National Heroes Square to Independence Square. A Native American bridge already existed at this location when the settlers arrived, and a new bridge was built in its place. In 1872, a wrought-iron bascule bridge was erected and later renamed in honor of Joseph Chamberlain, Colonial Secretary, for his efforts on behalf of the sugar industry during difficult years. Renovated in 2006, it was transformed into a lift bridge. Its south side features the Independence Arch.
