Formerly known as Trafalgar Square, the square spotlights the 11 national heroes and hosts a number of memorials: one to the Barbadian family, one to the war dead, and a fountain celebrating the arrival of running water. The highlight of the visit is the eleven steles featuring portraits of the heroes, with short biographies (you can find out more in the National Heroes Gallery). The statue of Lord Nelson, victor of the Battle of Trafalgar, once stood in the square, but as a symbol of colonization, it was moved to the Barbados Museum in 2020.
