OISTINS FISH FRY
Go there and contact
Don't make any plans for Friday, except for one thing: the Oistins Fish Fry, because if you don't go, you haven't visited Barbados. Right next to the fish market, as soon as the sun goes down, the cooks get busy in a dozen or so huts frying or grilling the day's catch, hence the name "fish fry". There are several in Barbados, but this is the best known and most popular. In a festive atmosphere (with live music and/or DJ), gourmets sit down wherever they can find room on communal tables to enjoy flying fish, mahi-mahi, barracuda or lobster accompanied by a salad, rice n'peas, French fries... and a cold drink, all in a truly relaxed and festive atmosphere. We eat, we laugh and we dance. All the senses are stimulated: hearing by the music, smell by the aroma of cooking fish, sight by the flames of the grills, touch by the warm evening air on the skin and, of course, taste. Don't worry, if you don't like fish, you can always find chicken or vegan side dishes. The aim is to enjoy the collective good mood. Frequented by tourists and Barbadians alike, you'll quickly make new friends. If crowds aren't your thing, you should know that on other days of the week, the restaurateurs are there, but it's not on the same scale. There are also a number of craft stalls right at the entrance to the site, where you're sure to find a souvenir to take home.
