BLACK PEARL OF SEYCHELLES
From air to water! Retreat for the former Pilote pilot (from SAS), who bought a home in Seychelles some years ago, so that he could settle there a day away from his native Norway. Not a question of you! Kari and Roald Nilsen have invested a small portion of the curious marine national park for aquaculture, which is determined to take advantage of the pearl oysters of the Pinctada margaritifera family, which can live more than thirty years and weigh 5 kg. Larvae of these oysters are collected in the lagoon and develop on void of 12 m long until they have the size of one hand. They are then brought to the marine farm and deposited in nurseries at 5 m or 6 m deep and, one year later, they are recovered to introduce into each shell a small nucleus (shell of the Mississippi oyster) from which the pearl will be formed. This delicate operation is carried out by the Japanese, masters in this field, each greffeur of oysters who have grafted some ten thousand before they are really performing. The registry is completed, and it is still waiting for two years; only one in ten pearl will have the privilege of being perfect. From silver blue to walleye and copper, the first seychellois pearls were harvested in 1997 by the Nilsen, who are bringing these natural jewels to an Australian jeweler. The latter has created a collection of jewels that promote these rare pearls. Some of these pieces are sold in the shop adjacent to the airport runway at the entrance of the basins.
