NATIONAL GATEY NECROPOLIS
National necropolis at Les Gateys pays tribute to the soldiers who died for the liberation of the Orne département.
Inaugurated in 1989, this memorial commemorates the 66 soldiers who lost their lives when the2nd DB liberated the Orne département in August 1944. At the end of the fighting, the Association des Anciens de la2e DB acquired the land at Les Gateys to house the graves of six servicemen. Purchased and maintained by the French state, the military cemetery now houses the graves of 19 French soldiers from mainland France and the colonies, and pays tribute to their memory.
