SAINT-MARTIN'S ABBEY
Go there and contact
A former Benedictine abbey steeped in history, with a park featuring a rose window of 530 linden trees, the only ones of their kind in the world, in Sées.
Founded in the 6th century by Benedictine monks from the Abbey of Saint-Evrout, then destroyed successively by Viking invasions and the Hundred Years' War, the abbey was rebuilt in the 17th century near the adjoining 14th-century church, giving rise to the faubourg Saint-Martin. Saint-Louis stayed here in 1256. From the 19th century onwards, it was converted into a spinning mill and then a hospital. Today, the 11,500m2 buildings and park, featuring a long canal and a rose-shaped plantation of 530 lime trees, are privately owned.
