MUTINONDO WILDERNESS
Established in 1995 by Mike and Lari Merett, who are passionate about the African bush, Mutinondo is a haven of peace lost in the miombo forests. The common areas and chalets are built with local materials and blend into the landscape. Everything in the lodge is designed to preserve its authentic environment: electricity, solar cooking and water heating, use and filtration of water from the surrounding rivers. The bungalows, intimate and isolated from each other, are open to the outside and offer a spectacular view of the granite massifs and the rolling forest. The lodge also has a bush camp, Kakonde Camp, located 12 km from the main camp, which accommodates only one group at a time for maximum privacy. This camp, with its chalet and campsite, is ideal for independent travelers who wish to cook for themselves. The reserve offers many activities, including horseback riding, hiking through the woods and hills, and swimming in multiple water holes and rivers. The lodge also organizes multi-day guided walks to the South Luangwa Park. To fully enjoy the place, a stay of 3 nights is a minimum recommended. Campers can cook for themselves or order their meals in advance. To get to Mutinondo from Lusaka, follow the Great North Road and turn east on a track 164 km north of Serenje.
