MUTINONDO WILDERNESS
Created by African bush enthusiasts Mike and Lari Merett, Mutinondo is a haven of peace lost in the miombo forests. The common areas and chalets are built with local materials and blend into the landscape. Everything in the lodge is designed to preserve its authentic environment: electricity, solar cooking and water heating, use and filtration of water from the surrounding rivers. The bungalows, intimate and isolated from each other, are open to the outside and offer a spectacular view of the granite massifs and the rolling forest. The lodge also has a bush camp, Kakonde Camp, located 12 km from the main camp, which accommodates only one group at a time for maximum privacy. This camp, with a chalet and camping site, is ideal for independent travelers. You can cook for yourself or order your meal in advance. Activities include hiking in the woods and hills, swimming in a variety of water holes and rivers, and horseback riding (the lodge has four horses). The lodge also organizes multi-day guided walks to the South Luangwa Park. It is also possible to descend the river by canoe. Driven by their idealism, and in close collaboration with the local communities, the owners hope to preserve the ecosystems through the income from tourism. To fully enjoy the place, a stay of 3 nights is a minimum recommended.
