As you leave Saint-Leu on the Route du Littoral, just past Pointe-au-Sel, a parking lot offers a view of a powerful "souffleur", a curious geological phenomenon on the coast. The wave enters a rocky cavity, sucked into the jagged basalt cliffs. A few seconds after the backwash, the water that has remained in the hole is violently expelled in a spray several metres high. This is the great oceanic geyser, the fireworks display. A fascinating spectacle, especially when the ocean is rough.

Bien sûr qu'il faut prendre le temps de s'arrêter en bord de route pour assister à ce spectacle naturel, lorsque le vent arrive du bon "côté" pour faire monter les vagues... parfois jusqu'à votre visage!
Et en plus c'est gratuit!!
Attention toutefois : les alertes vigilance forte houle ne doivent pas être négligées car plusieurs fois par an des imprudents se font prendre par la mer en s'approchant trop près!...

The St Leu Souffles is a natural curiosity found in St Leu and also at different places on the western Rocky Coast of Réunion. The wave is locked in a cave and with the pressure reared by a flaw producing a geyser. It is a curious and free show with the result of surprising and original photos.

Un site naturel qui se trouve sur la route nationale qui borde le littoral de Saint-Leu. Un arrêt s'impose pour apercevoir les vagues qui se propulsent dans la roche volcanique : c'est un spectacle exceptionnel!

Les souffleurs sont une curiosité naturelle surprenante car l'eau de la mer s'engouffre dans les roches volcaniques pour être propulsè en hauteur sous forme de jet vertical quelques secondes après. Ce spectacle est vraiment impressionnant, il mérite le détour ( situé sur la route entre Saint Leu et Etang Salé après la Pointe au sel ) et permet de réaliser de superbes photos.
