MALASPINA GLACIER
Malaspina Glacier, 38 km long, 32 km wide and 600 m thick, offering a very demanding 10-day trek on foot
Named in honour of Alessandro Malaspina, who visited the region in 1791 on behalf of the Spanish Navy, it is the circular shape of its glacial lobe, one of the largest in the world, that makes the beauty and fame of the Malaspina Glacier. It is 38 kilometres long and 32 kilometres wide and its ice can be up to 600 metres thick in some places. You can fly over this glacier and its two lakes by plane or reach it on foot during an extremely demanding ten-day trek, including four days camping on the ice.
