MUSEE DES BEAUX-ARTS
Founded in 1850, the Musée des Beaux Arts de Beaune has been at Porte Marie de Bourgogne since 2002. The place is more suitable for the conservation of works as to the visit, more spacious and more modern for the permanent and temporary exhibitions. The Museum contains some steles and Gallon-Roman relics and has collections of sculptures dating from the 12th to the begining of the 20th century, including a polychrome Madonna with Child which is a true treasure of medieval art. Flemish painters of the 16th and the 17th centuries are well represented, just like the local artists, in the image of Félix Ziem or Hippolyte Michaud. On the whole, they are 400 paintings, 350 sculptures and 1,000 engravings. These will enable you to educate yourself in a ludic way. Since March 2015, the museum offers a new scenography of the permanent collection in order to spot the crucial works and some that are still unknown. In addition to permanent collections, the museum houses each year several temporary exhibitions.
