HAWAIKI NUI VA'A
Between October and November, the largest va'a (Polynesian canoe) race is held in the Leeward Islands.
Every year towards All Saints' Day, this fantastic race of canoes with pendulum pendulum attracts the best teams from Fenua as well as some foreign crews. It is the biggest competition in this international sport, of which the Polynesians are the world champions. Over three days, Hawaiki Nui includes several stages between Huahine-Raiatea (departure on the quay of Fare), Raiatea-Tahaa, and finally the longest Raiatea-Bora Bora, about 120 km in all! On arrival in Bora, a delirious crowd greeted the winning crew and all the others.
