CHURCH OF SANKT OLS KIRKE (SANKT OLS KIRKE)
At 28 meters above sea level, St. Olaf is the highest church on the island, and a spectacular sight to behold.
Olsk or Olaf is the patron saint of one of the four circular churches on the island. It was built around 1170. Its special tower-like shape provided better protection against pirate attacks from the Baltic Sea. At 28 meters high, it is the highest on the island. Its barrel vault, supported by a central column, rises to 13 metres. It is quite spectacular to discover! Note the few fragments of frescoes from the 14th century.
