MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS (BORNHOLMS KUNSTMUSEUM)
A museum with very modern architecture, where you can discover contemporary works, temporary exhibitions and much more.
This all-white museum can be seen from afar! Very modern architecture, simple and cubic, harmoniously integrated into the exceptional natural site, right next to the "sacred rocks" of Helligdomsklipperne. 4,000 m² of luminous space, thanks to immense glass roofs and numerous windows opening onto nature, dedicated to art.
The main hall showcases artists from the Bornholm School, a group of modernist painters whose movement caused quite a stir in Danish art circles in the early 20th century. Among them are Karl Isakson, Edvard Weie, Oluf Høst and Olaf Rude. Touched by the beauty of the island's landscapes, they drew inspiration from them in their paintings. In the outer rooms: 19th-century Danish painters such as Michaël Ancher, Lars Hansen, Holger Drachman and Kristian Zahrtman. (Religious paintings and scenes of daily life, full of realism and color). The tour continues on the lower floors: more contemporary works and temporary exhibitions, plus an extension devoted to Scandinavian design. Enjoy the outdoors too. Admire the view while taking shelter from the elements!
Stroll along the "sacred rocks" of Helligdomsklipperne. To reach these rugged, rocky granite cliffs (22 m high) plunging into the sea, paths lead from the museum along the coast or down wooden staircases on the rock face.
