MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS (BORNHOLMS KUNSTMUSEUM)
A museum with very modern architecture, where you can discover contemporary works, temporary exhibitions and much more.
This white museum can be seen from far away! A very modern architecture, simple and cubic, harmoniously integrated into the exceptional natural site, right next to the "sacred rocks" of Helligdomsklipperne. 4,000 m² of luminous spaces, thanks to the immense skylights and the numerous windows open on the nature, dedicated to art.
In the main hall, the artists of the Bornholm School are exhibited, a group of modernist painters whose movement caused quite a stir in the Danish art world at the beginning of the 20th century. Among them were Karl Isakson, Edvard Weie, Oluf Høst and Olaf Rude. Touched by the beauty of the island's landscapes, they were inspired by them in their paintings. In the peripheral rooms: the Danish painters of the 19th century, such as Michaël Ancher, Lars Hansen, Holger Drachman or Kristian Zahrtman. Religious paintings and scenes of daily life, full of realism and color). The visit continues on the lower floors: more contemporary works and temporary exhibitions, as well as an extension dedicated to Scandinavian design. Enjoy the outdoors as well. Admire the view while being sheltered in case of bad weather!
Stroll along the "holy rocks" of Helligdomsklipperne. To reach these rocky and rugged granite cliffs (22 m high) that plunge into the sea, paths leave from the museum following the coast or descending by wooden stairs on the side of the rock.
